Pearl Street Food Drive

It has been over a year since ICB began our food drive to support the Pearl Street Café and Cupboard, one of the largest food pantries in Massachusetts. This food drive was started in July 2020, during the earlier days of the pandemic, in response to the unprecedented food insecurity experienced by many in our local communities. Even though our Center was closed, and community members were not able to drop off non-perishable food items, the community rallied behind this initiative by making generous cash donations. A committed team of volunteers have been shopping every week for food items needed at the pantry and have continued to drop off a carload of donations on behalf of ICB every week. Because of our weekly presence, our team members have become known by first-name to the food pantry staff.

It is one of the few ICB initiatives that is directed toward addressing food insecurity in our local towns, irrespective of their faith. Our faith tells us that we have a responsibility towards our neighbors and this program is about carrying out our religious duty.

Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while the neighbor to his side goes hungry."
